EarthLink Inc. on Tuesday urged federal regulators to block Comcast Corp.'s acquisition of NBC Universal, saying the deal would hurt consumers and competitors.
The Internet service provider, whose service competes with Comcast's broadband service, said the deal would lead to Comcast engaging in "anti-competitive" actions that will "reduce consumer choice, restrict content diversity and interfere with Internet competition."
EarthLink wants the Federal Communications Commission, which is accepting comments about the deal, to require Comcast to sell wholesale broadband access to independent ISPs. EarthLink said it already has a wholesale agreement with Time Warner Cable.
Comcast announced in December it will pay about $13.75 billion to gain control of NBC Universal from General Electric Co. The deal, though opposed by consumer groups and subjected to congressional hearings, is expected to close by year's end because there's little overlap of operations between Comcast and NBC.
On Monday, more than 200 TV stations affiliated with NBC sent a letter asking federal regulators to impose conditions on Comcast's proposed takeover of the broadcaster to ensure they aren't harmed in the deal.

Police could not release the 31-year-old actor's blood alcohol level, but a spokesperson added that it was over the legal limit.

The actor was taken to Los Angeles Police Department's Van Nuys station following the arrest. He has since been released without bail, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Klein's dog was in the car at the time of the arrest and was retrieved by a friend.

Klein was also arrested on DUI charges in 2004, according to police.

Since 1974, the NASCAR Sprint Cup series has been racing at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. In all, the Cup series has raced here 634 times. Bill Elliott has the most all-time victories at the track with five, while Jeff Gordon trails by just one with four. Richard Petty won the first event at the 2.5-mile tri-oval in his '74 Dodge.

Pocono Raceway was track was built in 1968. It has 14 degree banking in Turn One, 8 degree banking in Turn Two, and 6 degree banking in Turn 3. The straights are flat at two degree banking and very long. The frontstretch is 3740 feet with a backstretch of 3055 feet. The shortstetch is still 1780 feet. In all, the track seats nearly 77,000.

Over the last three years, there is one driver who has performed better than any other.... Jeff Gordon. The driver of the No 24 has a win (Pocono -I 2007), and three top-five finishes, and five top-tens. But, Gordon's best result in 2009 was a fourth. That's a solid finish but not the kind of winning lock we are looking for today's race.

Tony Stewart has the next best results over the last six races including a win at Pocono I in 2009. Stewart also has three top-fives and five top-tens in that span. But Tony has had a miserable 2010 with little sign of breaking out. Currently Stewart has just one top-five in 13 races in 2010, and just four top 10s.

The next best driver over the last three years at Pocono is Carl Edwards. He has a win at Pocono II in 2008, and two top-fives over the last six races. But he only has three top-tens over the last six events, and his 2010 numbers aren't much better than Stewarts.

Hardly the kind of stats we are looking to cling to as we try to pick a winner.

So this weekend, we are going out on a limb, and sawing it off. Our pick to win today's The Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500 Presented by Target (29th Running) - Egaads what a name - is Kasey Kahne. Kahne was the best results over the last four races including a win in Pocono I in 2008.

Should that pick fail us, which it most likely will, keep an eye on Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin. They all have solid records at Pocono.

June 6, 1944, D Day. Sixty-Six years ago today on the beaches of Normandy, France, the ‘day of days’ had arrived. Allied forces under the command of General Dwight D. Eisenhower stormed the ‘Atlantic Wall’, opening up the long-awaited second front. Forces of the United States landed at two beaches, code-named Omaha and Utah, while British, Canadian and Free-French units landed at three beaches, code-named Gold, Sword and Juno. Hours before the massive amphibious assault had begun, some 24,000 airborne paratroops had landed in several locations inland. Altogether, nearly a half-million soldiers, sailors and airmen participated in the attack.

The invasion marked a turning point in World War Two. Despite successes elsewhere, Germany was still in control of most of Europe. Their industrial capacity had even grown, and new weapons, such as the jet fighter and the V-1 and V-2 rockets were being produced in quantity. The Soviet Union had carried the brunt of the war for three years. Around 75% of Germany’s military forces were engaged on the East Front. While Germany had been steadily pushed back since their defeat at Stalingrad, the outcomeof the war was still in doubt.

D-Day changed that. With the Allied invasion, Germany now had to fight a two-front war. Most of their defensives were concentrated further east near the French port of Calais. A long war of deception was carried out by the Allies to trick the Germans into believing that the main assault would be there. Indeed, even a month after theNormandy landings, some German leaders still thought that another, larger invasion would be at Calais.

Weather and tides played a huge role in the timing of D-Day. June 4th was the initial date set for the invasion. But foul weather delayed the assault. Had the weather continued to be bad on June 6th, tidal conditions would have forced the invasion to be delayed for several weeks.

The heroic efforts by Allied servicemen on D-Day can hardly be comprehended. Often called, “The Longest Day”, the fighting in some areas was brutal. At Omaha Beach alone, Americans suffered some 5,000 casualties. So much hung in the balance on D Day itself , but even afterwards well into the campaign. It was not until Operation Cobra, launched in late July, that finally secured theNormandy peninsula once and for all. D-Day, June 6, should be long remembered for it’s role in saving Western Civilization and for preventing a new Dark Age.

Pepperdine's trip to Italy looked like fun

Pepperdine toured through Italy earlier this month, and while the Waves got to test themselves in games against Italian professional teams and gain 10 extra days of practice, having a ball was a priority as well.

They gave their tour guide a Pepperdine cap, and off they went exploring places like Rome, Florence and the Vatican. The team blogged about the experience, and a flipcam went along for the ride.

Here's video of coach Tom Asbury and the team in Siena, where players killed time by pretending to be robot mimes (a la "EuroTrip"), eating gelato and dancing with the locals.

Hype couldn't help Foreman in ring
Three days before the Miguel Cotto-Yuri Foreman clash at Yankee Stadium, we asked Foreman if it was possible that the press had hyped the rabbi-in-training angle to kingdom come, if he considered that maybe his superlative backstory was making pundits overlook the fact that his résumé wasn't sterling.

So many fightwriters and fans were picking the WBA 154-pound champion to upset three-time titlist Miguel Cotto -- whose résumé was beyond reproach -- that the Puerto Rican was no longer the favorite in the court of public opinion.
Foreman answered, We'll see Saturday night.
We did indeed. And the résumé theory held true.
Foreman fought a better grade of athlete than he had previously, maybe two steps better. Team Foreman, like seemingly everyone else, gave Cotto the Mark Twain treatment heading in to the tussle, exaggerating his demise. But we saw from minute one that Cotto's legs were bouncy, he held the weight at 154 well, and his punches had snap.
Ref Arthur Mercante Jr. saw enough 40 seconds into the ninth, as a left hook to the body shifted Foreman's internal organs to an excruciating degree.
This was no Daniel Santos, the man Foreman had wrested the title from last November. Even if wars with Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao have sapped some vitality from Cotto, he's still a formidable pugilist, in the pound-for-pound top 15.

Cotto rises to 35-2, while Foreman is 28-1.

Boxing held up to its rep as the theater of the unexpected, when Foreman trainer Joe Grier threw in the towel in the eighth, sensing that his fighter's right knee was in bad shape after he'd slipped on the wet canvas. But Mercante disregarded the towel, believing that Foreman was in decent shape to continue, and said after that he didn't know who had thrown in the white flag of surrender.

"It was a lot of pain, it was very sharp," Foreman, 29, said of the balky knee. "I didn't want it to stop, I wanted it to continue. I'm a world champion, now a former world champion. I'm not just quitting. We need to fight."

Foreman will get the knee checked out, thinking there might be ligament damage. He said he had a similar injury as a kid in Israel but didn't have health insurance, so he never had it correctly diagnosed.

Promoter Bob Arum said if the injury is bad, Foreman will need to do rehab and will come back against sub-Cotto-level competition.
With the loss, Foreman's cred doesn't dip that much. He showed grit, fighting on a bum knee, and started to trade with Cotto when the Puerto Rican's power shots sapped his ability to keep up the constant movement. From the opening bell, the 29-year-old Cotto's power edge stood out. His jab buzzed the Brooklyner, and his counter left hooks had Foreman fighting to keep his equilibrium several times.

Foreman's best round was the fourth; he appeared to be getting his range. But though he made Cotto miss, he didn't make the now-four-time-titlist pay. Foreman's movement was too often without purpose. His jab needed to be an offensive weapon, as the rest of his arsenal won't make anyone cringe in fear, let along Cotto, who's faced men with chainsaws for fists and kept coming forward.

Cotto, after the ludicrous delay for the "mystery towel" incident, finished the job with a left hook to the body. The loser -- who said after, "Thank God for keeping us both healthy, more or less," winning points for perspective -- needed to be busier to convince the judges that his brand of boxing was better. But it was Cotto who had the volume edge 115-329 to 71-281, and no judge had Foreman winning more than two rounds.

Foreman can take solace in the knowledge that he is not likely to hear the "Yuri Boreman" slam in the near future, seeing as how he stood in the pocket late in the game, and was in it to win it. And he will forever by associated with the strange scenario at the Stadium, Towelgate In The Bronx; there was nothing boring in that bizarre eighth-round interlude.

Dennis Gabor was born on June 5, 1900, in Budapest, Hungary, to S. Berthold and Ady (Jacobovits) Gabor. The son of a businessman, he received his education at the technical universities of Budapest (1918-1920) and Berlin (1920-1927). He earned both his diploma and his doctorate in engineering from the Technische Hochschule, in Charlottenburg, Germany, the former in 1924, the latter in 1927. He remained in Berlin upon graduation, working as a research engineer for Siemens and Halske until Hitler's rise to power in 1933.At that point Dennis Gabor left Germany for Britain, taking a job with the British Thomson-Houston Company in Rugby, England.
Gabor stayed with the British firm for 15 years, from 1933 to 1948, working on the improvement of the resolving power of the electron microscope.
The electron microscope had increased resolving power a hundredfold over the finest light microscopes, yet it still fell short of allowing scientists to "see" atomic lattices (the patterned arrangement of atoms, not individual atoms, which are too small).The image was distorted in two ways - fuzziness (as if one's camera were out of focus) and sphericity (as though one were looking through a raindrop). If one improved the former, the latter worsened, and vice-versa.

During his childhood in Budapest,Dennis Gabors howed an advanced aptitude for science; in their home laboratory, he and his brother would often duplicate the experiments they read about in scientific journals. He entered Budapest Technical University at age eighteen, but had only completed three years of study when he was drafted into the military. Gabor, who had already served two years in World War I, chose not to fight for Hungary's newly restored monarchy; instead, he moved to Berlin to complete his education. It was here, at Berlin Technical University, that he studied under such influential scientists as Max Planck (1858-1947), Max von Laue (1879-1960), and Albert Einstein (1879-1955). Gabor remained in Germany until the rise of Hitler, after which he fled to England, where he conducted the bulk of his research.

In 1947 a brilliant solution occurred to Dennis Gabor. What if one were to use the diffraction pattern (the fuzziness) in a way which provided one with all the information about the atomic lattice. Gabor proposed to take an electron beam of light and split it in two, sending one beam to an object, the other to a mirror. Both would initially have the same wavelength and be in phase (coherent), but upon reflection from the object and the mirror back to the photographic plate, interference would be set up. Imagine ocean waves rolling in upon a long, sandy beach, one following another. Imagine them all equal in size, intensity, and timing. Now imagine you could split the beach in two, with two sets of waves coming in upon two different beaches. Tilt these two at an angle of your own choosing, superimpose them, and imagine the interference the waves would create for each other. This interference would not be completely chaotic, but would actually follow a pattern. From this "diffraction" pattern, one could reconstruct the initial waves. Now vary these initial waves in size, intensity, and timing (which might be imagined as due to different weather conditions out at sea). The diffraction pattern would differ correspondingly, and even the weather conditions might be hypothetically reconstructed. This is what Gabor wished to do with electron beams. The beam from the mirror would be unchanged, but the beam reflected from the object would contain all the irregularities imposed upon it by that object. Upon their meeting at the photographic plate, the two beams would be generally incoherent, and an interference pattern would occur. This interference could then be captured upon film, and if light were then shone through this film, it would take on the interference pattern and produce an image capable of three-dimensional reconstruction.

Gabor worked out the basic technique by using conventional, filtered light sources, not electron beams. The mercury lamp and pinhole were utilized to form the first, imprecise holograms. But because even this light was too diffuse, holography did not become commercially feasible until 1960, with the development of the laser, which amplifies the intensity of light waves. Nevertheless, Gabor demonstrated mathematically that holography would work even with electron beams - just as his experiments showed it worked with ordinary light. The major practical problem remaining with the electron microscope prior to 1960, however, was not left unchallenged by Gabor - this was the double image incidentally obtained by the holographic process. Gabor was able to use the very defect of electron lenses - spherical aberration - to remove the second image.

Gabor published the principle of holography and the results of his experiments in Nature (1948), Proceedings of the Royal Society (1949), and Proceedings of the Physical Society (1951). This work earned him in 1948 a position on the staff of the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London. In 1958 he was promoted to professor of applied electron physics, and he held that post until his retirement in 1967. His other work consisted of research on high-speed oscilloscopes, communication theory, physical optics, and television, and he was awarded more than 100 patents. Yet Gabor was not the pure scientist or isolated inventor; many of his popular works addressed the social implications of technological advance, and he remained suspicious of assumptions of inevitable technological progress, nothing the social problems it could not solve as well as the ones it caused.

2 years before Nokia Morph was designed, there was another promising flexible concept phone that could be wrapped around your wrist. There’s also a pretty neat earpiece concept included in the design and once you unwrap the Nokia 4G Phone, you’ll see a beautiful and simplistic interface.

Touchscreen is once again at work and the user interacts with it thanks to a stylus. I suppose that Morph borrowed a couple of elements from this Nokia 4G prototype, even the color, if you’re really into details.

Nokia Aeon - A Future Technology from Nokia..

Nokia's Aeon: A concept phone that combines two touch-sensitive panels mounted on a fuel-cell power pack. Each of the panels are capable of being used independently. The touch screen displays all buttons that are virtual, so in one situation one panel could operate as the display, the other as the keypad. Nokia also establishes a new wireless standard with wibree, basically an upgraded bluetooth which would allow the Aeon to be a thin-client, farming out processing and storage.

The Aeon seems to be typical razer-thin candy bar form factor cell phone with no actual buttons. That can change into any kind of menu, button and keypad with a simple touch. The touch screen method brings up a ton of quirky problems like causing damage to the display with those pointy thumbs of yours.

The concept phone, dubbed Aeon, combines two touch-sensitive panels mounted on a fuel-cell power pack. The handset's connectivity and electronics are built into the panels to allow them to be used independently. When assembled, one panel would operate as the display, the other as the keypad. Since the buttons are entirely virtual, Aeon can flip instantly between a numeric pad for dialling, a text-entry pad for messaging and a media-player controller.

Nokia's vision of wearable technology users could wear the lightweight panels as a badge, or connected to a wrist strap. The most prominent design feature of aeon is a touchscreen that stretches over the full surface area of the phone, similar to benq siemens's black box concept phone .

How to dry a wet phone

Instructions:
Things You'll Need paper towels or refrigerator or TV or vent or car dashboard or plastic container filled with dry rice or cat litter or compressed air in a can or a hairdryer

Step 1
Step One Obviously the first step is to remove the phone from whatever liquid it was immersed in. Next remove the battery as soon as possible. I can’t overstate how important this step is. The phone is an electronic device and electricity and water do not mix. Leaving the battery in will cause short circuits and damage the phone. If your phone has a SIM card remove that too. Wipe off any excess water with a towel paper or otherwise.
Do not heat the battery under any circumstances; they can explode!

Step Two
Try putting the phone in the refrigerator. This may sound strange because most of us associate heat with the drying process. Actually the refrigerator cools things by drawing moisture out of things.
Do not put the phone in the freezer as this can damage the LCD (Liquid crystal display)
After 30 minutes or so, take it out for about 10 minutes, and repeat until the phone is dry.

Step Three
One of the simplest methods is to place the phone on top of a TV, or vent from a cable box or a device which emits a low heat. This can take up to 3 days but it’s better than having to shell out the bucks for a new phone.

Step Four
If your accident happens outdoors miles away from home the simplest way to dry a phone is to place the phone on the dashboard of your car. The car should be parked in a place that gets plenty of sun. After about 2 hours check to see if the screen is fogged. If its still foggy put it back on the dash, if not try putting in the battery and boot up the phone.

Step Five
Another common method used to save a wet cell phone is to place the phone in a container of rice. Remember how Grandma put grains of rice in the salt shaker to keep the salt dry. Rice can absorb an incredible amount of moisture.

Step Six
Other methods along this line involve putting the phone in a sock or pantyhose and placing in a container with silica sand or the new crystal kind of cat litter. On the average these methods take about 3 days to be effective.

Step Seven
Try using a compressed air can like the ones sold at computer stores. Hold the can STRAIGHT ( holding the can sideways, upside down, or at an angle, will discharge a freezing liquid damaging your phone further) Shoot the air into speaker, mic, keypad, and hard to reach crevices.

Step Eight
One of the easiest methods to save a wet cell phone is to use a plain old hair dryer. This method is somewhat controversial. Some sources say that the heat from a hair dryer is too hot. Most hair dryers have a low heat setting and this is the one that should always be used. If the low heat setting on your hair dryer is too hot it is better to use another method.

Step Nine
If your phone was dropped in salt water or water containing an excessive amount of minerals you will have to take some special steps. Salt water will crystallize causing its own set of problems. You may use alcohol or distilled water to flush out contaminants. If you use alcohol it must be at least 95 % denatured alcohol. Rubbing alcohol is only 70 % and not effective.
Be sure to check what the alcohol is denatured with. Do not use anything other than methanol. Any other kind of alcohol can damage your phone. Rinse the phone with alcohol and dry. Alcohol is flammable so this should be done outside or in a well ventilated area.

Step Ten
Another way to remove salts and minerals from a wet cell phone is to use distilled water. While not as effective as alcohol, distilled water will dilute minerals and salts. The idea is to get the salts and minerals off the copper parts in the phone before they corrode
Put the battery back in and test it.

A new device has been introduced to the marketplace that is a huge danger to anyone who uses a PC that is not theirs. It is known as a key tracker and it sits between the keyboard and the PC.

As can be seen in the pictures it is very discreet but is probably one of the most dangerous items of equipment to personal information that is readily available.

These devices record every key that is pressed on the keyboard. Due to it's position (it sits between the keyboard and the PC) the information is logged by the tracker before the PC knows about it and as such is very difficult for the PC to detect. They are available in both USB and PS2 formats so pretty much any PC can be logged. The user puts the tracker in line, leaves it there for a set amount of time and then retrieves it.

If you intend to use a PC that is not yours (ie hotel business centre, internet café, airport etc) I would advise looking at the back of the PC to see if one of these trackers has been placed in line (scrambling under a desk is the better alternative to losing your email details).
If you cannot get to see the back of the PC, I would suggest you don't use it for anything personal. If a tracker is there and you do not notice it, whoever placed it there (could be any user of that PC before you) will be able to recall all of your keystrokes - logins, passwords etc.

It uses liquid battery, speech recognition, flexible touch screen, touch sensitive body cover which lets it understand and adjust to the environment. It has a simple programmable body mechanism so that it changes forms in different situations.

*the functionality of design

You dont have to carry it in your pocket or on your wrist. You can carry it anywhere, in anyform. You can roll it, bend it, put on your clothes like a clip. It also makes some form changes that makes it more ergonomical: i.e. when you want to talk on the phone, the body form turns into the form of the good old telephone. You can personalize these forms and record them. So it fits you the best in the way that you have chosen. The functions that it has also create a feeling of electronical pet, as it senses your moves, understand what you want, respond you in the best way. It learns you, to fit you better.Also e-motions lets you send forms to the other 888 users. It could be the shape of a heart or a small dance. This way you can talk without words.

E-motions… It means electronical motions that 888 has. You can send and receive forms from / to friends. You can send a heart shape to your girlfriend, so her telephone turns into an icon of heart. Or you can send a dancing form to your friends to call them to the party tonight. This is the fun side of the product. If we look from the functionality side, 888 is quite flexible. You can put it into your pocket, roll it and make it smaller, or put on your wrist when you want to make a video call on the go. If you want to talk like a normal telephone, there you have your telephone shape. We go through a lot of places and situations in the daily life, so it seems like one form is not enough.

Sony Ericsson YARI Full Review And Specifications

Design

Subtlety isn't something we encounter too often when reviewing mobile phones, but if anyone is to deliver a subtle elegance in its design aesthetic, it's Sony Ericsson. The Yari isn't a high-end phone, its RRP of AU$549 places it somewhere in the middle of the road, and from a distance it looks like another boring handset. Up close though, you discover something quite beautiful in its black and white composition, its asymmetrical curving white trim and oddly shaped camera key — the gentle ridges that define the keys on the T9 keypad.

While we find this handset beautiful to behold, we don't find it fantastic to use. The aforementioned keypad design is cool to look at, but it's essentially a flat plastic surface with raised peaks, and while this is nice to slide your fingers across, it makes it difficult to type on quickly and accurately. The same can be said for the navigation panel under the phone's screen. Again it looks great, with careful, subtle design, but the buttons aren't easy to use without care.
Good game?

If you've heard anything about the Yari it's no doubt about the phone's gaming prowess, Sony Ericsson's first gesture-controlled gaming phone. For most gamers the following statements are probably completely redundant, but we'll say them anyway: these games suck like a Dyson cyclonic vacuum cleaner. Of the 10 games pre-installed, five of them are controlled by a player's gestures recorded by a front-facing camera, similar to the EyeToy on the Playstation. There's Baseball, Boxing, Bowling, Tennis and Fitness, with only Bowling responding well to gestures and none of them coming even close to being fun.

On the flipside, the games controlled by either the number pad or an in-built accelerometer are mostly fine for killing time. There's LocoRoco, a motion puzzler controlled by tilting the phone, Bubble Town, which is like Bubble Bobble with a story tacked on, and the self-explanatory FIFA 10 and Guitar Rock Tour.
Media and the web

The Yari comes with all the hardware you'll need to connect to the web, including HSDPA data transfers, but no Wi-Fi. The web browser is OK for short sessions of Google searches, but the combination of the browser and smallish screen make reading your favourite desktop websites a feat of patience and sharp eyesight. Yari also has GPS on-board and a range of location-based services installed, including Google Maps and a navigation app called WisePilot.

Sony Ericsson's excellent media browser is present here too, giving the same excellent user experience we've seen recently in the W995 amongst others, with album art display and access to a range of good equaliser presets. On the back of the phone, alongside the 5-megapixel camera and flash, are external speakers which are surprisingly loud and clear. Less impressive is Sony Ericsson's lack of a 3.5mm headphone socket or adapter to plug in standard headphones.

One area of the phone that definitely meets our expectations is the camera. We're not often fans of Sony Ericsson cameras, especially in this price range, but the Yari is one of the exceptions. The photos we've taken so far have been colourful and with decent focus, perfect for capturing those impromptu moments with family, friends or clowns, etc.
Performance

We have no complaints about the way Yari processes common tasks. Throughout our tests the Yari remained stable and lag-free, executing applications quickly even when others remain open in the background. Data transfers were slower than you'll get with a high-powered smartphone, but as we said earlier, this isn't a great phone for web browsing on the whole. Call quality is alright, but not spectacular. The earpiece speaker on our review unit tended to be a little muffled, making it hard to hear when outside near traffic.

Sony Ericsson gets two big thumbs up for battery life, though. While using the Yari we charged the phone on either the third or fourth day, making it twice as battery efficient as the large display touchscreens available.
Overall

The Yari looks great but doesn't have stellar features or applications. The phone is fine and the battery is good, but this can be said for most phones we review. The web browser, games and navigation are mediocre features with limited purpose, and the music player would have been great if Sony Ericsson got past its insistence on using a proprietary port for connecting headphones.

Whether it's Conflickr or a new fake anti-spyware program, it seems like spyware and viruses are inescapable for any PC connected to the Net. It's estimated the amount spent annually on security software in the United States has risen to over $800 million in recent years, but PCs are still getting infected daily. Why aren't we virus free yet?

The answer is found in the nature of malicious programming or greedy programmers. Computer viruses don't spring up out of the blue, they're designed by programmers who either have nothing better to do and think it is going to be interesting, or pros who earn cash by abusing your computer. Whenever anti-virus vendors are informed of a new virus, they create a new definition for their anti-virus software to help isolate and remove that virus if it is downloaded onto your PC. Once the new definition is widespread enough that a significant percentage of PCs are safe against that virus, a new one is created by the malicious programmers and the cycle begins again. Nearly two thousand new viruses were identified each day in 2007, and the issue isn't going away anytime soon. This is why you need to allow your anti-virus software to download new virus definitions so often.

Frustrated hackers bored with the fast turnover of "regular" viruses have graduated to attacking your computer's defences directly: your anti-virus software. Many new viruses include programming that either hides itself specifically from several popular anti-virus programs, prevents them from downloading new virus definitions, or shuts them down completely. Even if these new viruses are identified quickly, many PCs will already be infected and the software on the machines will be unable to remove the virus. In situations where one virus shuts down the anti-virus software entirely, other viruses will often infect the machine and can render it inoperable in a couple of hours if not minutes. Still other nasty viruses employ tricks to avoid removal techniques, and will re-infect a machine after an anti-virus program or a user makes an attempt to delete them.

The war against computer viruses is non stop, but you can do something to help defend your system. Installing a good anti-virus program and permitting it to update frequently is just the first step, but be careful of fake anti-virus programs you'll find online (many of these are viruses themselves). The fake anti-virus programs normally go by the names : Antivirus 2010 Pro, Windows Pro Police, System Guard 2009, Personal Antivirus, Antispyware XP 2009, and many more. You can see a pattern in how they name themselves. Never download anything from an individual or internet site you don't trust, never open a suspicious email (you don't always have to open the attachments to become infected), and don't go to websites with a poor reputation. If you take these steps and your computer still gets infected, have a trained professional remove the virus for you instead of trying to remove it yourself. Modern viruses can be very difficult to isolate and remove, and it's very simple to damage your system accidentally while making an attempt to remove one.
